Premier League side Aston Villa have joined the race to sign £9million rated Real Valladolid midfielder Ruben Alcaraz, according to a report.

Marca have claimed that Villa want to sign Valladolid’s Alcaraz, with the La Liga club owned by Brazil legend and former striker Ronaldo.

As reported by Sky Sports, former World Cup winner Ronaldo purchased a 51% stake in Valladolid in 2018, who recently maintained their status in Spain’s top-flight.

Nonetheless, Marca are reporting that Alcaraz’s season hasn’t gone unnoticed as Villa have entered the bidding process for the Spaniard’s services, alongside Getafe.

On Monday, Villa earned promotion to the Premier League when they beat Derby County 2-1 at Wembley in the Championship play-off final.

That promotion for Dean Smith’s side has boosted their financial situation and also meant that they can now go and purchase players of a higher calibre.

As for Alcaraz, over the recently concluded season, he was a regular for Valladolid playing 34 matches in La Liga, scoring three goals and supplying his teammates with two assists [transfermarkt].

Alcaraz is more of a passer of the ball, who can get forward when need be and provide for his team from a defensive standpoint also.

If Alcaraz were to join Villa then, at this moment in time, he would compete with Jack Grealish, John McGinn and Conor Hourihane for a first-team spot – the trio started for Villa at Wembley. Back-ups do include Mile Jedinak, Henri Lansbury, Glenn Whelan and Birkir Bjarnason.
