Ahmed Musa wants to leave Leicester City after featuring once all season and it is understood that Aston Villa are hot on his trail.

Ahmed Musa had an option to move to Hull City in the summer but, according to the Hull Daily Mail, decided to stay and fight for his place at Leicester City.

Two months after the close of the transfer window, the Nigerian international must be wondering why he had bothered. Because Musa, who cost Leicester a then-club-record £16 million from CSKA Moscow in 2016 (BBC), has featured just once in all competitions this season – coming in the 4-1 EFL Cup win at Sheffield United in late August.

Understandably, the report claims that Musa is now open to the idea of kick-starting his career away from the King Power Stadium. And while Hull are understood to be interested again, the 25-year-old has a new admirer in the shape of Aston Villa.

Villa are sixth in the Championship after a much improved run of form in recent months but their tally of 22 league goals is bettered by nine teams in the division.

Mulling over Musa

Musa would prove Steve Bruce with a different option in attack, however, the 2014 World Cup star renowned for his lightning pace and ability to come in from the right flank onto that dangerous left-foot.

Though Musa simply hasn’t clicked at Leicester, there’s a reason the 2016 Premier League champions paid such a huge fee for his signature. Musa scored 13 goals in 30 league games for CSKA in 2015/16, after all.

And with Villa relying heavily upon the power and aggression of Keinan Davis with Jonathan Kodjia and Scott Hogan yet to find their form after injuries, Musa could provide a real boost to their promotion hopes – if he can rediscover the form that made him a star in Russia, that is.
