Aston Villa have reportedly joined Derby County and Norwich City in the race for Huddersfield’s Michael Hefele.
According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa have joined the battle for Huddersfield Town defender Michael Hefele – but the Terriers want to offer him a new deal to block any interest.
Villa have been quiet so far this summer as Steve Bruce is work on a tight budget due to Financial Fair Play regulations, at least until fringe players such as Jordan Amavi, Jordan Veretout and Carles Gil move on this summer.

A new centre back appears to be at the top of Bruce’s wish list, and whilst Villa are pursuing a bold deal for Chelsea defender John Terry, alternatives will be needed in case the England international doesn’t join.
The Daily Mail now report that Villa are interested in signing Huddersfield Town defender Michael Hefele, joining Championship rivals Derby County and Norwich City in the race for his signature.
However, it’s added that Huddersfield want to offer Hefele a new contract in order to block any rival interest in his signature, having seen him become a cult hero at the John Smith’s Stadium last season.
Hefele, 26, joined Huddersfield from Dynamo Dresden last summer, and the 6ft 4in centre back has become one of the Terriers’ most popular players under David Wagner, as he played a key role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League.

Whilst Huddersfield will want to add more new signings having snapped up Porto striker Laurent Depoitre on Friday, they may now have to increase Hefele’s wages in order to keep him out of the clutches of Villa and other interested clubs.
The German would be a great signing for Villa, possessing great size, strength and aerial ability, but he now has the chance to play in the Premier League with Huddersfield, and dropping back down into the Championship would be a huge surprise.
