A report in The Daily Mail has suggested that Aston Villa have looked at Baptiste Santamaria of Angers as a possible alternative to Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips.

The Daily Mail has claimed that Villa are interested in signing Phillips from Leeds in the summer transfer window.

Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa does not want to sell the central midfielder, with the Championship club looking for £30 million for the 23-year-old, according to the report.

The report has added that Villa have explored other options including Santamaria of Angers.

Good signing for Aston Villa?

Phillips is one of the best central midfielders in the Championship, and his versatility to play as a central defender also makes him a very appealing player to have in the team.

However, £30m is too much, and if Villa can get Santamaria for a decent fee, then the Villans should go for him.

According to WhoScored, the 24-year-old French midfielder made 37 starts and one substitute appearance in Ligue 1 for Angers this season, scoring one goal in the process.
