According to The Leicester Mercury, Aston Villa are in talks with former Chelsea and Stoke City central defender Robert Huth following his departure from Leicester City at the end of last season.

Huth, who has played for Chelsea, Middlesbrough and Stoke in his career so far, has left Leicester this summer, and Championship club Villa are reported to be in talks with the German centre-back.

However, the Villans are reported to be unsure whether they will be afford to sign Huth due to their issues with Financial Fair Play.

Good signing for Aston Villa?

Huth is a very good and experienced defender, but it will be a risk for Villa to sign the German centre-back.

As reported by The Leicester Mercury, the 33-year-old central defender last made a senior appearance in May 2017 and did not play at all last season due to injury problems.

While the defender – who was earning £38,000 per week as salary at Leicester last season, according to Spotrac.com – would be a free signing for Villa, his age and injury problems should be a concern for the Villans.
