Aston Villa are eyeing strikers for the January transfer window.
According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa hold an interest in signing Liverpool striker Danny Ings despite Premier League clubs battling for his signature.
Villa have splashed the cash on three strikers since their relegation to the Championship, but their varying fortunes mean that Steve Bruce may need another forward in January.
Jonathan Kodjia has been a roaring success since his move from Bristol City, but the Ivorian could miss the majority of the season through injury, whilst Ross McCormack has been a major flop and has been loaned out to Melbourne City, with Scott Hogan still failing to live up to his billing.
With limited funds available, Bruce is set to be restricted to loan deals, and the Birmingham Mail note that Villa do hold an interest in signing Liverpool’s Danny Ings until the end of the season.
Given that Premier League clubs are hoping to land Ings, Villa may be left disappointed in this pursuit, but the 25-year-old could be a smart addition if they can pull it off, as the former Burnley striker is desperate for playing time as he recovers from a second serious knee injury.
If Ings can’t be landed, it’s claimed that Villa’s other top striking targets are Burnley’s Nahki Wells and Leicester City’s Leonardo Ulloa, though the Foxes may be edging towards keeping the Argentinian striker.
One player unlikely to be making the move to Villa Park though is Swansea City’s Oli McBurnie, as it’s claimed that Villa are looking for a more experienced option than the 21-year-old Scot.
Strikers appear to be the main topic of conversation at Villa Park ahead of the January transfer window, and Bruce will be hoping that his ambitious pursuits of Ings or even Ulloa come to fruition.
