Aston Villa are keen to strengthen their squad, with John Terry their first summer signing.

According to a report in the Daily Star, Aston Villa are hoping that the arrival of John Terry will convince more players to join them this summer.

Villa caused a shock when they managed to attract Terry to join them, after his contract at Chelsea expired.

Terry had options from the Premier League, the Championship and abroad – but picked Villa out as the club he wanted to join.

The 36-year-old is now expected to have a hugely important role to play under Steve Bruce.

And Villa feel that Terry’s arrival will prove to any other potential new signings that they mean business.

Villa are aiming to strengthen their squad, as they seek a big improvement on last season.

The claret and blues could only finish in mid-table last term, and Bruce will be under pressure to guide his side into the top six this time around.

Villa get their season underway with a match against Hull City at the start of August.
