Aston Villa are said to be keen to sign Gary Cahill following his release from Chelsea.

Cahill is currently a free agent, following his release from Chelsea, and Dean Smith is thought to be considering taking the experienced defender to Villa.
Villa have now held discussions with the former Premier League winner, but are still looking at other options.
Villa have signed Tyrone Mings back from Bournemouth, while Axel Tuanzebe reportedly remains an option, even though Manchester United are set to tie him down to a new deal.
Cahill, therefore, looks like he could be a back-up plan for Villa, if they don’t get some of their younger targets.
Cahill would offer Villa experience and a reliable presence at the back if he was to join.

He is also a player who Villa assistant John Terry knows well, having played with him at Chelsea.
Terry and Cahill often partnered each other at the back and the Villa assistant thinks very highly of the 33-year-old.
“He has been different class and is England’s best centre back. For me he has been brilliant all season long,” Terry said of Cahill to the London Evening Standard back in 2014.
