After three weeks of negotiations, Aston Villa are close to making a breakthrough in a deal to bring Morgan Sanson to Villa Park, Le 10 Sport claim.

Villa are keen on the Marseille midfielder, who they believe could bolster their options in the middle of the park even further.

Villa already have a collection of strong players in midfield – with Douglas Luiz, John McGinn and Ross Barkley all excellent choices.

But Dean Smith has seemingly wanted to find further quality, and a deal for Sanson is now very close.

Villa are said to be paying around £15 million to bring in the 26-year-old.

It is claimed that the deal has taken weeks to put into place, but Sanson is now closer than ever before to leaving Marseille.

Sanson would be joining Villa at a positive moment for the club, with Smith’s side harbouring ambitions of breaking into the top six.

Villa are currently in 11th place in the Premier League table, but have four games in hand over some of the teams around them.
