Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest were battling it out to sign Tammy Abraham from Chelsea this summer.

According to a report in the Nottingham Post, Tammy Abraham was Nottingham Forest’s first choice strike target before he joined Aston Villa.

Forest had lined up four potential strike options, including Jermain Defoe, Rudy Gestede and Nelson Oliveira, but it was Abraham who Aitor Karanka wanted the most.

Unfortunately for Forest, their efforts to sign Abraham were blocked by Villa.

Steve Bruce’s side were able to agree a loan deal with Chelsea to bring the in-demand striker to Villa Park for the season.

Forest now are looking at other options, and they are said to be confident of getting a player to the City Ground.

Forest are seemingly looking at free agents now, with the transfer window closed.

Karanka has picked between Daryl Murphy and Lewis Grabban to lead the line for Forest so far this season.

The Reds have had a mediocre start to the campaign, with just one league win to their name so far.
