Aston Villa are reportedly closing in on Lille winger Anwar El Ghazi.
According to France Football, Aston Villa are expected to finalise an agreement for Lille winger Anwar El Ghazi today as Steve Bruce chases reinforcements.
Villa are looking to bring in new signings after a difficult summer, and Steve Bruce now has new backing from Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens to go out and snap up new faces.
Another winger is a top priority for Bruce, and whilst a deal for Everton’s Yannick Bolasie is wanted, Middlesbrough rivalling them means other options are being looked at.
Now, France Football report that Villa are expected to close a deal for Lille wide man Anwar El Ghazi today, having opened talks about a move on Tuesday.
It’s claimed that El Ghazi is no longer part of Lille’s plans and can leave the club before the end of the month, with Villa now in pole position to secure his signature.
El Ghazi would join on loan with a view to a permanent move in January, though it’s unclear whether a deal has been setup as a fallback in case Villa can’t land Bolasie, with two wingers possibly not what Villa need right now.
El Ghazi, 23, showed real promise with Ajax, hitting 23 goals in 100 games before heading to Lille in January 2017, but he has found the net just six times in 44 outings.
A Dutch international with two caps to his name, El Ghazi is a tall and athletic winger who still has untapped potential, and Villa may well feel that they can get the best out of him.
