Aston Villa have enquired about the services of Real Mallorca striker Ante Budimir, according to a report.
Spanish outlet Marca have claimed that Villa and their Premier League rivals Sheffield United have asked about the 29-year-old’s availability.
Both Dean Smith and Chris Wilder could do with some attacking firepower before the window slams shut on October 5, but a move for Budimir would be a little left-field move.
Whilst Villa fans were laying out the claret & blue carpet for Jack Grealish after he helped save his boyhood club from relegation, Budimir was doing some heavy lifting of his own over in La Liga.
Even though he struck 13 goals in 35 league matches last season [transfermarkt], he was unable to prevent Mallorca from dropping down to Spain’s second-tier – it needs to be remembered this was his debut campaign in Spain’s top-flight.
The Spanish report does also state that Villareal are the frontrunners for his signature, but they have bulked on the £13.75 million asking price.

A tenacious and aggressive character in the final third, both Villa and Sheffield United would welcome an individual with that type of character into their dressing room.
But when it comes to Budimir’s profile and age, he’s not someone who the man in Villa’s in the dugout would push for – Wesley and Ollie Watkins are prime examples of that.
Either way, expect those in the West Midlands to be pretty busy trying to conclude even more deals from now until October 5 because it has been a healthy window so far.
