Report: Aston Villa defender John Terry wants to play next season

Aston Villa defender John Terry is hoping to continue for one final year following the end of this season.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, John Terry plans to carry on playing next season and may even be willing to stay with Aston Villa should they get themselves promoted out of the Championship.

Terry surprised many when he decided to drop down into second tier after a fantastic career with Chelsea, and he has turned into a brilliant signing for the Villans – proving to be a real leader and performing well out on the pitch for Steve Bruce’s men.

His initial deal with Villa expires at the end of the season, and the Mirror reports that he could become a free agent this summer once again. But rather than retire, he is planning to play on for one final year.

The Mirror adds that Villa hope that they will be able to convince him to stay at Villa Park – though if they remain in the Championship, they will need the 37-year-old to take a pay-cut.

There is still every chance that Terry could finish his career at Villa after a season in the Premier League, despite Steve Bruce’s men going into the international break off the back of a disappointing couple of results.

A 4-1 win over Wolves seemed to lay down a marker to the rest of the automatic-promotion chasers, but subsequent defeats to Queens Park Rangers and Bolton Wanderers have left the Villans fourth, seven points off second place Cardiff City, so it appears that the play-offs are on the cards for Bruce’s men.
