Aston Villa missed out on landing Liverpool winger Harry Wilson.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa weren’t in a position to pay the £1million fee needed to take Liverpool wide man Harry Wilson on loan this summer.

Villa spiralled into a financial mess after their failure to win the Championship play-off final against Fulham, but they at least managed to keep hold of key players before being taken over by Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens.

However, Villa did miss out on key signings over the summer during that financial saga, and reports are emerging about one player Villa couldn’t afford to lure to Villa Park.

The Birmingham Mail report that Villa wanted to bring in Liverpool wide man Harry Wilson on loan, but they weren’t in a position to spend a £1million loan fee to sign him.

Championship rivals Derby County swooped in to land him instead, though the Welsh talent has played just two Championship games having suffered an injury last month.

With Edens and Sawiris, Villa would have been able to pay the loan fee, but manager Steve Bruce may have actually managed to land two even more impressive signings.

Bruce has brought in Lille winger Anwar El Ghazi as well as Everton wide man Yannick Bolasie, two massive coups to strengthen Villa’s options on the flanks.

El Ghazi already has one goal and one assist in two Championship outings, whilst Bolasie is a stunning signing for a Championship club – and Villa fans surely won’t be ruing missing out on Wilson after landing those two players.
