Steve Bruce is currently the odds-on favourite to get the Aston Villa job, but the BBC claim that is far from certain.

According to a report on BBC Sport, there could yet be another twist in Aston Villa’s search for a new manager.

Villa’s board are set to recommend their first choice replacement for Roberto Di Matteo in the next 24 hours.

It was widely anticipated that Steve Bruce would be the man to take over at Villa, but the BBC suggest that is far from certain.

Bruce is actually one of a number of possible candidates who could come in at Villa Park.

Steve Clarke is still being considered as a potential new manager, and has been given an interview in recent times.

The BBC also suggest, rather interestingly, that Villa could yet make a move for a manager who is under contract at another club.

Villa will reportedly only approach that unnamed boss, however, if they decide that Bruce and Clarke are not the right choices to take them forward.

Villa have not put a timescale on when they wish to have their next permanent manager in place by, meaning Clarke is likely to take charge of the Claret and Blues for their next match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
