Report: Aston Villa could consider selling Scott Hogan as Steve Bruce targets two or three January signings

Aston Villa may have to sell players before they add to their ranks during the January transfer window.

According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (print edition; 29th October 2017; page 65), Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce would ideally like to make two or three additions to his squad during the January transfer window, but that may mean that Scott Hogan’s days at Villa Park could be numbered.

Hogan has endured a very difficult time since joining the Villans for £12 million (via BBC Sport) during the most recent January transfer window, scoring just once in 27 Championship appearances since moving from Brentford.

He has fallen down the pecking order this term, starting in just three of his 12 league appearances, and The Sun on Sunday is now suggesting that he may be used to bolster the club’s funds for January.

The Sun on Sunday (print edition; 29th October 2017; page 65) that Bruce wants to bring in as many as three players during the January window, but Villa’s need to balance the books means that selling players first may be important.

And thus, Hogan’s future appears to be in some doubt at this stage with the report suggesting that he could be one of the players who the club may look to move on.

Though Villa’s strikers have hardly been prolific this term, Hogan’s form has surely given Bruce little reason to believe that he could be the forward who could help the side capitalise and push on from their current position, and thus, selling him and getting others in may not be a terrible idea.
