The former Ipswich Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers manager had admitted his interest in succeeding Steve Bruce at Aston Villa.

The former Ipswich Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers manager, Mick McCarthy, was contacted by Aston Villa during the club’s search for a successor to Steve Bruce, according to the Sun.
The newspaper insists however that McCarthy was not interviewed by Aston Villa, who it adds are set to appoint the former number two to Jose Mourinho, Rui Faria.
It is claimed Faria will be assisted by his one-time Chelsea colleague and ex-Villans captain, John Terry, after Thierry Henry turned down the top job in favour of a return to Monaco.
McCarthy told Virgin Media Sport he would be “absolutely” interested in managing Aston Villa, after leaving Ipswich towards the end of last season.

The 59-year-old helped Ipswich to top-half finishes in three of his four full seasons in charge at Portman Road, which followed promotions at Sunderland and Wolves.
In total, McCarthy spent close to six seasons at Wolves, which could have made his appointment by Wanderers’ neighbours Aston Villa a controversial one.
