Report: Aston Villa considering Robert Huth following Leicester exit

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in a bargain move for Robert Huth with the Premier League title-winner now a free agent.

According to a report from the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa are currently considering a move for Robert Huth as they prepare for life without John Terry at the club following their failure to get promoted out of the Championship.

Terry moved to Villa Park in a deal that surprised many during the previous summer window. But while he was impressive for much of his time with the Villans, he was one of a number of players who proved disappointing in the play-off final as Steve Bruce’s men were beaten by Fulham at Wembley.

The game would prove to be Terry’s last for Villa, and Bruce is now considering replacements for the former England captain. And the Birmingham Mail reports that one of the players that he is looking at is Huth.

The German is a free agent after leaving Leicester City following a frustrating season that was blighted by injury. But Bruce is weighing up whether to offer him the chance to take Terry’s place at Villa Park ahead of the club’s third season in the second tier.

If Huth is able to stay fit, it could prove to be a fantastic signing for Villa. The 33-year-old was a key part of Leicester’s title-winning team in 2015/16, missing only three league matches during the season, and no player from Germany has made more appearances in the Premier League since 1992.

His experience could certainly see him fill the void that Terry has left behind, and he would surely love to have another chance at the top flight by helping the Villans get themselves promoted if a move does take place.

But Bruce must now weigh up whether his recent injury record is concerning enough to put him off a move or whether it is a gamble worth taking following Terry’s exit.
