Aston Villa are reportedly considering a move for Jonas Knudsen should they fail in their pursuit of Joe Bryan.

Jonas Knudsen of Ipswich Town clears the ball during the Emirates FA Cup third round match between Ipswich Town and Sheffield United at Portman Road on January 6, 2018 in Ipswich, England.

According to a report from the Ipswich Star, Aston Villa are considering a potential move for Ipswich Town defender Jonas Knudsen should the Villans fail in their pursuit of Joe Bryan.

It looks set to be an exciting end to the window for Steve Bruce’s men after what has largely been a torrid summer. As yet, none of the club’s key players, barring John Terry, have left, and the new signings are starting to come in, with Andre Moreira, Axel Tuanzebe and Orjan Nyland all arriving in recent times.

The Ipswich Star reports that Bruce is looking to strengthen his options on the left flank, with the club seeing a bid for Bristol City star Bryan accepted. However, with Middlesbrough in the same boat, it appears that they have their eye on alternative options.

The Ipswich Star adds that both Boro and Villa are now looking at Knudsen in case either misses out on Bryan. The Ipswich ace is now into the final year of his contract at Portman Road, but it remains to be seen if the Tractor Boys have any interest in letting the 25-year-old move on.

While he does not appear to be Villa’s and Boro’s primary target at left-back, Knudsen would arguably be a very shrewd signing for either during the final days of the window.

He provided seven assists for Ipswich in the Championship last season and earned a place in the Denmark squad for this summer’s World Cup. His one appearance in Russia came in the dramatic defeat to Croatia.

If he does join Aston Villa, he could end up making a very swift return to Ipswich as Bruce’s side take on Paul Hurst’s men in their third league game of the new campaign.
