Aston Villa reportedly believe they’re going to win the race for Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury, beating the likes of Celtic and Derby County.

According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa are confident that they will win the race to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury in a £3million deal.

Villa will be keen to add new signings during this month’s transfer window as they pursue a spot in the play-off places, and manager Steve Bruce has some room to bring a player or two in after selling striker Rudy Gestede to Middlesbrough.

One area that Villa will be looking to strengthen is in midfield, with Ashley Westwood continuing to struggle and summer signing Aaron Tshibola yet to make an impact since arriving from Reading.

It seems that Bruce’s top target is Nottingham Forest ace Henri Lansbury, and the Daily Mail report that Villa believe they are set to win the race to land him in a £3million deal.

Lansbury, 26, has hit 33 goals in 150 games for Forest since joining from Arsenal in 2012, and he has become one of the Championship’s top midfielders during his time at the City Ground.

However, Lansbury is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning that he can join another club on a free transfer in the summer, unless Forest choose to cash in and sell him whilst they still can this month.

Having offered £3million to sign him, Villa now believe that they’re favourites to land him ahead of Championship rivals Derby, with Forest unlikely to sell their prized asset to their biggest enemies.

Villa’s confidence will also come as a blow to Celtic, with the Nottingham Post reporting that Bhoys manager Brendan Rodgers is a big fan of the midfielder and wants to bring him to Scotland – but the faces missing out to Villa if the latest reports are to be believed.
