Aston Villa are reportedly discussing triggering Ezri Konsa’s release clause at Brentford.

According to a report from Sky Sports, Aston Villa are now closing in on a deal to sign Ezri Konsa after talks have progressed with Brentford with the Villans set to trigger his £12 million release clause.
Dean Smith has enjoyed an incredibly busy summer ahead of Villa’s return to the Premier League, and the latest addition is perhaps his most popular yet with Tyrone Mings returning on a permanent basis after a hugely successful loan last season.
But despite the additions of both Mings and Kortney Hause, Smith is reportedly keen to land another centre-back ahead of the new campaign, and Sky Sports reports that he is closing in on signing Konsa from his old club.
It was Smith who was in charge when Konsa arrived at Griffin Park, and Sky Sports reports that the two clubs have been discussing a move that would see Villa pay the eight-figure fee that would trigger his release clause.

Like most of Brentford’s signings in recent years, Konsa has been a fantastic player in the Championship and appears to have every chance of being able to step up to the Premier League if his move to Villa goes through.
And if the top flight newbies can get a move completed for the 21-year-old, Smith arguably has every right to feel extremely optimistic about the business done and the defensive options that he is set to have at his disposal heading into the coming season.
