The Daily Record claims that Bologna want a fee of £15million if they are to sell Scottish wonderkid Aaron Hickey this month. Recent reports have suggested that Aston Villa, Celtic and Manchester City are all interested.
Hickey, 19, joined Bologna in the summer of 2020 from Hearts – having played more than 30 times for the Scottish Premiership side beforehand. His first season at Bologna, Hickey clocked up just 12 appearances.
The left-back has clocked up 19 Serie A appearances, missing only Bologna’s last game due to a positive test. In that time, he has clocked up four goals – including two in his last four. Clubs are becoming interested in Hickey.
While he remains uncapped by Scotland – largely due to Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney – he could be on his way to the Premier League. But if that is to happen, Bologna will request a fee of £15million for the defender.
Villa, Manchester City or Celtic – which club will sign Hickey?
CalcioMercato report that Celtic and Manchester City are showing interest in Hickey. Meanwhile, Tuttosport – as per TeamTalk – say Steven Gerrard and Aston Villa are on pole position for the Bologna star.
The chances of Celtic spending £15million, or anything over £10million on a player – is unlikely. Their club-record signing is still Odsonne Edouard, who cost £9million. Aston Villa need a left-back, but cover for Matty Targett.
Or indeed, competition. They can afford that fee, as can Manchester City. Hickey has more chance of game time at Villa – but City might aid his development further. Either English side could get Hickey this month.
