Aston Villa are reportedly keen on American teenager Indiana Vassilev.
According to Sunday’s edition of The Sun, Aston Villa have asked teenage midfielder Indiana Vassilev for talks over a January move as they look to beat Premier League interest.
Villa have made a fine start to life under Steve Bruce, winning three and drawing two of his five games at the helm, and they now lie just five points off the play-off places in the Championship table.
The Mirror report that Bruce is being backed with funds for the January transfer window, and whilst much of that will go towards major first-team reinforcements, a young talent is also being linked with a move to Villa Park.
The Sun (06/11/2016) reported that Aston Villa want to sign American teenager Indiana Vassilev in January, having been scouting him during an international tournament in France.
Vassilev, 15, is currently with the IMG Academy in Georgia, and is believed to have impressed Villa during a recent trial period, meaning Villa have asked the midfielder for talks about a January deal.
It’s stated that Premier League teams want to sign Vassilev, meaning Villa are pushing to work out a deal ahead of the transfer window and make him the latest American to play for the club.
The likes of Brad Friedel, Brad Guzan, Eric Lichaj and Michael Bradley have all represented the club in recent years, and Vassilev could follow the footsteps of his compatriots by penning a deal with Villa.
At 15, we may not hear much about Vassilev for some years, but Villa need to focus on developing young talent having let the likes of Jordan Graham, Daniel Johnson and Callum Robinson leave the club in recent years – and bringing in prospects from abroad may be something Villa look to do by signing Vassilev.
