Aston Villa were amongst the group of sides who made a bid to sign Dominic Solanke on loan from Liverpool over the summer.
The Villans endured an extremely difficult window before their new majority shareholders came in. Steve Bruce had little funds to work with initially and a number of key players to replace following the end of their respective contracts or loan deals with the club.
Villa’s financial situation appears to be a lot more secure, but the restrictions of Financial Fair Play still forced the Championship side to predominantly use the loan market, with five of their eight additions arriving on a temporary basis.
And it appears that it could have potentially been one more loan signing arriving through the door. The London Evening Standard reports that Villa joined the likes of Huddersfield, Middlesbrough, Rangers and Lyon in attempting to sign Liverpool striker Solanke.
The Standard adds that all bids were swiftly turned down by the Reds who seemingly believe that staying put at Anfield would be in the youngster’s best interests after a mixed first season on Merseyside.
Villa seemingly responded well to missing out on Solanke. The loan deal to bring Tammy Abraham to the club appears to be a fantastic piece of business given his previous record in the second tier.
Based on their business and their start to the season, it would appear that goalscoring is not going to be their main problem, but rather keeping the opposition at bay with an underwhelming number of defensive options added.
