Aston Villa and Middlesbrough are interested in signing former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Crystal Palace star Bakary Sako, according to TEAMtalk.

Sako is without a club at the moment and is a free agent, having left Premier League side Palace at the end of last season.

Potential good signing

The Mali international, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, has experience of playing in the Championship with Wolves in 2014-15.

The 30-year-old can score goals and create chances, and it is not a surprise that Championship duo Villa and Middlesbrough reportedly want the former Saint-Etienne star – who was earning £55,000 per week as salary last season at Palace, according to Spotrac.com.

Intense competition

Villa, though, are not facing competition from just Middlesbrough, according to media reports.

According to The Sun on Sunday (print edition, page 63, September 9, 2018), West Bromwich Albion and Nottingham Forest are eyeing a deal for Sako (click here to read more).

Villa, Middlesbrough, West Brom and Forest all are aiming to win promotion from the Championship to the Premier League this season, and Sako seems to be spoilt for choice.

Steve Bruce’s Villa could find it tough to convince the former Wolves and Palace star to move to Villa Park.
