Villa are said to be keen on the Ligue 2 star.

Aston Villa will look to bolster their light central midfield options this month with the signing of Amiens midfielder Guessouma Fofana, according to a report from L’Equipe.

Villa are looking for several reinforcements to their squad in the January transfer window, and one particular area in the spotlight is the middle of the pitch.

Summer signing Aaron Tshibola is out of favour under Steve Bruce, while Ashley Westwood and Gary Gardner have both been inconsistent as they stake their claim to be Mile Jedinak’s regular partner.

Championship stars such as Nottingham Forest man Henri Lansbury have been touted as serious targets, but now names from abroad are starting to emerge.

Leading French publication L’Equipe claims that Villa are looking to move for Mali international Fofana, currently plying his trade in Ligue 2 with Amiens.

The 24-year-old defensive midfielder has only spent two years in the French second division side’s first team, but is already attracting interest from England.

The report claims that Villa will have to fight off interest from Championship rivals Norwich City and Premier League side Stoke City if they really want to bring Fofana to Villa Park.

Fofana is not the high-profile name that many Villa fans will be looking for, but he may be one to watch as talk of a move increases.
