According to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Sampdoria are interested in signing Aston Villa left back Jordan Amavi this summer.

Amavi, 23, joined Villa from Nice in the summer of 2015, having emerged as one of the top left backs in French football with some impressive performances.

Whilst he made a decent start to life at Villa Park, his first season was cut short in November 2015, suffering a major knee injury – and he showed some rust upon his return last season.

Now, Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Sampdoria are interested in luring Amavi to Italy this summer, as they focus on signing a new left back.

Given that manager Steve Bruce brought in Neil Taylor from Swansea City in January to be his first-choice left back, Amavi’s days at Villa Park seem numbered – and a move to Sampdoria could be best for all parties.

Bruce needs to sell before he can buy this summer, and a young player with potential like Amavi could generate some considerable funds – but it may not be quite as much money as it could have been.

Villa owner Tony Xia took to Twitter in December to claim that he had rejected a massive £25million bid for Amavi, vowing that the Frenchman would only improve at Villa Park.

Now though, with mounting interest in his signature, Amavi could actually leave Villa this summer – and surely for a fraction of that alleged £25million after a disappointing season.
