Everton want a new manager, and according to The Athletic, Marcelo Bielsa is their number one choice to replace Frank Lampard.

The Toffees want Bielsa, and while that would be an exciting appointment, it’s fair to say that getting the Argentine on board is not an easy feat.

Indeed, Bielsa is a man who loves to prepare. Before taking any job he does an unbelievable amount of due diligence on the ownership, the squad and the project and if he doesn’t quite like what he sees, he will not join a club.

Considering Everton’s current situation, getting Bielsa to Goodison Park right now may not be possible. However, if Everton can’t get Bielsa, they may well get the next best thing.

Indeed, according to The Times, the Toffees are keen on West Bromwich Albion manager, Carlos Corberan, and that is a very interesting development to say the least.

Corberan isn’t only an intriguing target because he’s a great manager, it’s also worth noting that he’s a disciple of Marcelo Bielsa’s.

The Spaniard cut his teeth as Leeds United’s U23 manager and assistant during Bielsa’s time at the club, and the fact that Everton are targeting both Bielsa and Corberan at the same time indicates that the Merseyside club may have an actual plan this time around.

For far too long, Everton have had a scattergun approach when appointing managers, but the fact that they’re looking at both Bielsa and Corberan – two managers cut from the same cloth, right now, suggests that they actually have a vision of where they want to go and who they want to steer the ship.

Whether it’s Bielsa or Corberan or even someone else, Everton’s fortunes may well change upon the appointment of their next manager.
