Mikel Arteta has still not told Arsenal goalkeeper Emi Martinez whether he will be starting on the first day of the season, the Telegraph report.
Martinez has been linked with a surprise exit from Arsenal this summer, with his future now very uncertain.
Martinez wants to be Arsenal’s number one, but with Bernd Leno now back and fit, there are no guarantees that he will play regularly.
While Arteta did pick Martinez in the Community Shield final, whether he will keep the faith in the Argentine when the Premier League season comes round remains to be seen.
Indeed, even Martinez and Leno have apparently not been told who is number one yet, heading into the new campaign.
The Athletic suggest that Arsenal value Martinez at £20 million, and if the goalkeeper isn’t chosen to be number one then he will look to move on in the hope of finding more regular first-team action.

That would be a blow to Arsenal, as Martinez has barely put a foot wrong since stepping into the team.
There were real concerns when Leno got injured last campaign, but Martinez has proven his quality in recent weeks, and it is no surprise that his form has led to interest from a number of teams.
