According to the Daily Mail, Mikel Arteta spent the international break in November meticulously devising a plan to help Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The 31-year-old Arsenal forward has seriously struggled so far this season, scoring just two Premier League goals in ten appearances.

The Daily Mail state that Arteta worked day and night trying to think of solutions to help the Gabon international rediscover his best form.

The Spaniard is also said to be concerned that the former Borussia Dortmund attacker was spending too much time out wide.

Arteta spent the international break throughout November hatching a plan to get his star man into more dangerous central areas, where he could then go on to cause havoc as he did last season.

In the 2019/20 campaign, Aubameyang netted a remarkable 29 goals in all competitions, including a double against Chelsea in the FA Cup final.

However, things really haven’t clicked into gear for the Laval-born centre-forward this season.

It is intriguing to hear that Arteta is devising a plan for Aubameyang, considering the success he enjoyed under the Spaniard last term.

After the ex-Manchester City coach’s first Premier League game in charge – a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth – the striker went on to score ten goals in 17 league games under Arteta, so the ‘plan’ for him back then must’ve been working to some extent.

Perhaps the Gunners boss attempted to tinker his tactics, and things have backfired for Aubameyang in particular.

Whatever has happened to the forward, Arteta needs to get him back amongst the goals, and fast.
