Arsenal might have won the FA Cup only yesterday, but it’ll be about business for head coach Mikel Arteta for the next couple of months.
The Spaniard masterminded a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday as Arsenal clinched the title for a record 14th time.
Arteta, who also won the FA Cup as a player for Arsenal, has only been in the job since December and what a way to kick-start your managerial career.
This will be his first experience with a summer transfer window though – and it looks like he’s already made one tough decision.
According to The Telegraph, Arteta, whose side finished eighth in the Premier League, is willing to sell Calum Chambers, a £16 million signing by the Gunners back in 2014.
The former Southampton star hasn’t played since December due to injury, but it appears as if Arteta and the club’s hierarchy don’t have a long-term plan for him, with Chambers and Sokratis Papastathopoulos among the centre-halves who are available for transfer [The Telegraph].
Being injured, Arsenal clearly won’t be able to sell this summer – and perhaps not until January, which buys the 25-year-old some time, but if this report is true, and he’s available to leave, then the club have already made their mind up.
Back in December, Arteta said of Chambers via The Express: “He’s come a long way. I know him very well because we played together and shared the dressing room here I always liked him with the attitude desire and his willingness to learn, I think he’s come a long way. He seems excited, that’s what I am feeling.”
