Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is willing to give Mesut Ozil a chance to help his side and he could even feature on opening day, The Sun report.

Ozil made a pre-season friendly appearance for Arsenal against Aston Villa at the weekend, with the German now back in Arteta’s plans.

Arsenal have looked to sell Ozil all summer, but have failed to drum up enough interest, with his £350,000-a-week wages putting teams off.

Arteta is apparently resigned to having Ozil for another season now, before he will be allowed to leave on a free transfer.

And rather than simply keeping Ozil in reserve, the Arsenal boss has decided that he may as well use the German playmaker while he is still at the club.

That could be a major turnaround, as Ozil has not played for Arsenal since March, with Arteta seemingly looking at other options.

However, with their Premier League opener against Fulham now on the horizon, Arteta has apparently had a change of heart.

The 31-year-old may now start against the Cottagers, in what would be a fairly surprising selection decision from the Spaniard.

Ozil will offer Arsenal creativity, but whether he will be able to fit in with Arteta’s high-pressing game still remains to be seen.
