Arsenal are heavily linked with a move for the Monaco winger this summer.

The Mirror have reported that Arsenal are “confident” that Thomas Lemar wants to join them.

But, according to The Mirror, Arsenal will have to smash their transfer record to sign him after the Ligue 1 champions slapped an £80 million price-tag on him.

However, the same publication claims that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is confident that a deal can be struck to bring him to North London.

Wenger has already broken the club’s transfer record this summer after signing Alexandre Lacazette for £52 million.

And a further £80 million on one player would be a major signal of intent by the 67-year-old, who has not lifted the Premier League title since way back in 2004.

Arsenal dropped out of the Champions League for the first time in Wenger’s 21-year tenure last season, but that sort of outlay would prompt the belief that they should be contending for the league title. Finishing in the top four would not be enough to save the Frenchman.
