Everton think that Arsenal may be about to overpay for Gabriel, if they sign him, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Arsenal are said to be willing to pay £22.5 million for Gabriel and are favourites to sign the central defender from Lille.
However, at those prices, Everton have no interest in buying the Brazilian centre-back.
Everton apparently feel that Lille are now demanding more than Gabriel is worth, and are focusing their attentions on signing a midfielder.
Arsenal apparently have a very different opinion on the 22-year-old and are prepared to spend big money in an attempt to bring Gabriel to the Emirates Stadium.
Even though Everton have walked away from the transfer, Arsenal still won’t have a clear run to sign the youngster.

Napoli are of the same opinion that Lille’s asking price is a fair one, and the Italian side are prepared to rival the Gunners for his signature.
Gabriel has been one of the standout young defenders in Ligue 1 over the past campaign, but he still has a lot to prove.
At Arsenal he could well partner William Saliba at the back, which would give Mikel Arteta a very exciting central defensive pairing, but also a hugely inexperienced one.
