According to ESPN Uruguay, Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has rejected both Fiorentina and Torino to hold out for Atletico Madrid.

It’s claimed that Torreira was wanted back in italy, having previously impressed with Sampdoria before his 2018 move to North London.

Fiorentina and Torino both made offers, but he has rejected both in order to prioritise a move to Atletico, where Diego Simeone is keen to sign him.

Torreira is now claimed to be ‘very close’ to joining Atletico, with negotiations now ‘well advanced’ but not yet finalised.

Simeone has allegedly called Torreira to convince him about a move to Atletico, and a deal will seemingly go through in the near future.

Torreira, 24, is undoubtedly a talented player; a real battling, tenacious midfielder who can offer plenty in Simeone’s style of play in Madrid.

He doesn’t quite fit Mikel Arteta’s style of play though, and selling him to raise funds for a midfielder who does fit this Arsenal side seems ideal.

Torreira playing for Simeone seems like a pretty perfect fit, and whilst Arsenal fans may hope for a swap deal involving Thomas Partey, it seems that a straight cash deal is on the cards.
