According to The Mirror, Joan Laporta wants to bring Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin back to Barcelona if he becomes president.

Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned in October, meaning there is now a race to become the new Barca president, with the idea of rejuvenating the club.

Laporta is one of the favourites for the position, as he looks to return to the Barca presidency having been in power at the Camp Nou between 2003 and 2010.

It’s now claimed that Laporta already has one signing in mind, because he wants to lure Bellerin back to Catalunya.

The report states that an agreement is already in place between Laporta and Bellerin’s representatives, with a £22milion deal in the pipeline.

Laporta was hoping for a January deal, but Bellerin has allegedly ruled out the prospect of leaving Arsenal midway through what is a difficult season, even though he is open to heading back ‘home’.

The 25-year-old was born in Barcelona and came up through the ranks with the club, before choosing to leave for a move to Arsenal in 2011.

Bellerin now has more than 200 appearances for Arsenal to his name, but may feel the time for a change is coming – and it may well arrive if Laporta becomes Barca president.
