Arsenal club chiefs have told Ainsley Maitland-Niles that he is free to leave, according to the Telegraph.

Mikel Arteta wants to keep Maitland-Niles at the Emirates Stadium, but it seems that the Arsenal boss may not get his wish.

Arsenal’s board have reportedly told the 22-year-old that is free to leave this summer, and interest is now building in his services.

Everton have enquired about the youngster, while Brighton & Hove Albion are also said to be keen.

Arteta didn’t use Maitland-Niles much after he first took over at Arsenal, but the prospect has forced his way back into contention recently.

Maitland-Niles even started the FA Cup final, with Arteta seemingly impressed with his performances in training after the return to action.

“He has everything, he has great qualities, I believe in him. I had to give him opportunities and today he took it with both arms. He had a really good performance,” Arteta said about the versatile player just after the FA Cup final to the Metro.

Arsenal’s board seemingly want to sell Maitland-Niles to help raise funds, as the Gunners are not in the strongest financial position.

Arsenal are preparing to sign Willian on a sizeable contract, and have offered new terms to Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, and some departures may need to happen to fund those moves.

If Maitland-Niles did leave it could be a blow to Arteta’s squad though, as he is such a useful player.

Maitland-Niles currently offers Arsenal cover in midfield and a right-wing back and losing his versatility could be frustrating for Arteta ahead of the new campaign.
