According to The Telegraph, Leicester City are now planning to move for Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand.

It’s claimed that the Foxes will offer a deal to Bertrand, who has confirmed that he is leaving the Saints on a free transfer this summer.

Brendan Rodgers wants to find another left back given that Christian Fuchs is leaving, James Justin is injured, Luke Thomas is inexperienced and both Ricardo Pereira and Timothy Castagne are better on the right side.

Bertrand fits the bill, and whilst he wants a two-year contract, Leicester ideally only want to take him on for a year.

Rodgers’ interest is no great shock; he worked with Bertrand at Chelsea and wanted to bring him to Liverpool, but was denied him according to BBC Sport.

He won’t have it easy in the race for the 31-year-old though, as Arsenal advanced their talks with Bertrand last week according to the Daily Mail.

Arsenal want Bertrand as cover for Kieran Tierney, and it looked like they were favourites when those reports broke.

With Rodgers and Leicester now entering the race though, the Gunners could be hijacked in an early summer transfer window blow.
