RB Leipzig appear ready to shelve their interest in Arsenal attacker Folarin Balogun due to their huge asking price.

That is according to Sky Germany’s Philipp Hinze, who claims that Leipzig consider Balogun too expensive.

Arsenal have slapped a huge €40million (£35million) asking price on Balogun as things stand.

Should Arsenal stick to that price tag, Leipzig will back away from the race for Balogun’s signature.

Leipzig are in the market for an attacking signing this summer with Christopher Nkunku set to join Chelsea.

Balogun had been picked out as a top target after excelling on loan with Stade de Reims, smashing 18 goals in 31 games.

The 21-year-old’s future at Arsenal is unclear though given that the Gunners already have Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah in attack.

Arsenal seem open to selling Balogun for the right price but it looks like Leipzig won’t be his next destination.

RB Leipzig could turn to Leeds United target Lois Openda instead of Folarin Balogun

Hinze also claims that Leipzig may turn their attention to Lens attacker Lois Openda instead of Balogun.

Openda has been in superb form this season, smashing 17 goals and three assists in 32 Ligue 1 games.

The Belgian has been causing mayhem with his blistering pace and he’s an ascending talent at just 23.

Foot Mercato reported last week that Leeds United are interested in signing Openda this summer.

Leeds aren’t guaranteed of their Premier League status just yet and would have no chance of signing him if they were relegated.

Leipzig could now put up a stern fight for the former Vitesse Arhem star, posing a real issue for Leeds.

Just what the future holds for Balogun is unclear; the high price is expected after such a great season but there isn’t tons of money being spent outside of England.

When exciting talents like Openda could be snapped up for cheaper, you can hardly blame Leipzig for looking elsewhere.
