Schalke are dreaming of signing Sead Kolasinac on a permanent basis from Arsenal but, according to Ruhr24, relegation from the Bundesliga would make a deal impossible,.
Unfortunately for the Rhine-based giants, relegation feels like a case of ‘when’, not ‘if’.
The Miners have dug themselves one hell of a hole; one they are unlikely to get out of. In 20 league games, Schalke have tallied more head coaches (three) than wins (one).
They are also nine points adrift of Arminia Bielefeld in the relegation play-off spot, with January’s 4-0 thrashing of Hoffenheim proving to be little more than a heart-wrenching false dawn.
So the chances of Kolasinac sticking around beyond May look slim.
Ruhr24 reports that the Bosnia international would be too expensive for a second-tier club, even if Kolasinac is willing to take a substantial cut on the £100,000 pay-packet he takes home every week at Arsenal.
Not that this most harsh of realities has stopped sporting director Jochen Schneider dreaming big.

“(Signing Kolasinac on a permanent basis) is our absolute dream. He’s an incredibly good guy, lives for the club, pushes and pulls the cart; Sead embodies Schalke like no other,” the Schalke chief said of a defender who rose through the ranks at the Veltins Arena and returned after four years in London.
“Of course, it is our wish to keep him until the end of his career and beyond.”
Kolasinac, who has already captained Schalke less than two months after his homecoming, will be a free agent in the summer of 2022.
Ruhr24 believes that Arsenal want £7 million in the summer.
