According to The Mirror, Arsenal’s pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Jorginho appears to be over as the deadline draws closer.
It’s claimed that Chelsea won’t let Jorginho leave the club without bringing in a new midfielder to replace him.
They have allegedly run out of time to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United, and now don’t think they can let Jorginho go – especially to a direct rival.
ESPN reported on Saturday that Arteta was ‘desperate’ to sign Jorginho, believing that he can be the man to provide quality in Arsenal’s midfield.
Arsenal are now close to admitting defeat in their attempts to bring in a new midfielder, with Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar seemingly unlikely to join too.
That would be a major disappointment for Arsenal, who are still lacking a body in the middle of the park even after bringing back Dani Ceballos.

Mohamed Elneny has been brought back into the fold after his loan spell at Besiktas, and Ainsley Maitland-Niles can play there if needed too.
Still, they’re not quite at the standard of Jorginho, Partey or Aouar, and if Arsenal come out of today’s deadline day without a new midfielder, some fans may be left very disappointed.
Ultimately, landing the 28-year-old was always going to be difficult given that Jorginho scored two penalties for Chelsea on Saturday, and it seems that the Gunners won’t be able to tempt their rivals into a deal.
