The Telegraph report that Leicester City are willing to sanction the sale of midfielder Youri Tielemans for just £25million this summer, with his deal ending in 2023. He has been linked with Arsenal, Newcastle and West Ham.

Tielemans, 24, has been a wonderful signing for Leicester since he joined the club from Monaco – initially on loan, before completing a £40million (Guardian) move permanently. He has since played 144 times for Leicester.

In that time, he has moved deeper into a playmaker role from holding midfield – having started as a 10. He has scored 24 goals, and laid on 22 assists, including that FA Cup winner against Chelsea in 2021.

90Min report Arsenal, Newcastle, West Ham and Chelsea are all keen on signing the 49-time Belgium international. Now, those four sides can land Tielemans for a bargain £25million – £15million less than they signed him.

Arsenal, Newcastle, West Ham or Chelsea – who is best for Tielemans?

You get the impression that Tielemans needs to play for a club where he knows he is one of the best players. He sparkled for Anderlecht, even captaining the side as a teenager. At Monaco, he struggled.

He was somewhat caught like a rabbit in the headlights. Tielemans has rebuilt his confidence and his career at Leicester – but picking his next club is crucial. Newcastle would see him the face of an exciting project.

But Newcastle, right now, is beneath Tielemans. West Ham would be a solid move, even if it is perhaps somewhat sideways to Leicester. At Chelsea, he would struggle to start and lose his confidence. Arsenal is ideal.

For any club in European football, £25million for Tielemans is a bargain – a player Pep Guardiola branded “top, top class”.
