Arsenal were seeking a buy-back clause in any sale of striker Eddie Nketiah this summer as Crystal Palace backed away from a possible deal.
That’s according to The Sun, who claim that the Gunner weren’t willing to let Nketiah go without the potential to bring him back down the line.
We have seen Manchester City strike a similar deal for Angelino, whilst also holding similar rights to Douglas Luiz until this summer.
Arsenal were making such demands for Nketiah, but they weren’t able to strike a deal for him to be sold this summer.
Crystal Palace held a strong interest but the move broke down over personal terms, and Nketiah is now unlikely to sign a new Arsenal deal.
Nketiah can walk away from Arsenal at the end of the season, and there are clubs in Germany lining up a move to sign him.
Branded ‘extraordinary’ by Mikel Arteta last summer, Nketiah looks to be down the Arsenal pecking order and is surely planning his escape already.
It’s clear that Arsenal do still think highly of the 22-year-old, hence their desire to get a buy-back clause inserted into any sale.
Yet with his contract running down, Nketiah may simply choose to get away from Arsenal – and may not come back as Edu had wanted.
