Everyone knows that Arsenal desperately need a striker.

Well actually, Mikel Arteta is going to need a minimum of three during the summer transfer window.

That’s because with Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette out of contract in June, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gone, Flo Balogun is going to be the only recognised number nine at the club.

However, it looks like the Gunners are moving to sign additional marksmen.

According to Calciomercato, Arteta and Edu want to sign former Chelsea hitman Alvaro Morata.

The 29-year-old is on loan at Juventus from Atletico Madrid and according to the Italian publication, the North Londoners want to bring him back to the Premier League.

However, Arsenal face stiff competition from Barcelona, whom Calciomercato also credit with an interest.

Good signing?

In a word, no.

Morata is already proven to be insufficient in the Premier League.

Chelsea spent £60 million on him in 2017 and 16 goals in 47 top-flight outings isn’t a healthy enough return to warrant Arsenal to bring him back.

Scoring goals is Arsenal’s achilles heal under Arteta and although they’re going to need several hitmen during the summer, Morata just isn’t up to par.

It’s also worth pointing out that it probably isn’t even true.

Under Arteta and Edu, the Emirates Stadium outfit tend to target young players with potential – and Morata has neither youth or potential to be talismanic in the Premier League.
