According to Football.London, Arsenal are exploring the possibility of signing a back-up goalkeeper in the January transfer window.
It’s claimed that the Gunners are looking for a creative midfielder and a centre back in January, but the suggestion of another goalkeeper arriving is interesting.
Arsenal signed Runar Runarsson from Dijon over the summer, paying just £1.6million to lure the Iceland international to North London.
The 25-year-old was a recommendation from goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana, having worked together at Danish side FC Nordsjaelland.
Runarsson was a replacement for Emiliano Martinez, arriving to offer cover behind Bernd Leno – but it hasn’t gone well so far.
Runarsson endured a miserable evening against Manchester City last week, fumbling a Riyad Mahrez free kick into his own net.

Some now wonder whether Runarsson is really good enough to be second-choice at Arsenal, and the claims of a new goalkeeper being on the radar suggest Edu and co agree.
The London Evening Standard noted that Arsenal actually wanted to make Runarsson number three, with Brentford’s David Raya – another Cana favourite – coming in as number two.
Raya ended up staying at Brentford though, meaning Runarsson was given a few months as second choice; an experiment that may already be coming to an end.
