According to Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain-owned Real Madrid goalkeeper Alphonse Areola in the summer transfer window.

It has been reported by the Spanish publication that Arsenal are looking for a goalkeeper this summer and have identified the 27-year-old as a potential transfer target.

The France international is on loan at Madrid at the moment, having moved to the Spanish giants on loan from PSG in the summer of 2019.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the 27-year-old will return to his parent club PSG at the end of the season.

Good signing for Arsenal?

Areola is a good goalkeeper, but he is a back-up at Madrid, having played just thrice in La Liga and only twice in the Champions League for Zinedine Zidane’s side so far this season, according to WhoScored.

Bernd Leno is the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal, and the Frenchman will only be a back-up to him if he joins the Gunners this summer.

Uncertainty in football

Ligue 1 in France has already been called off due to the global health crisis, while football in England and Spain is suspended at the moment.

It is not clear when the summer transfer window will open and how much clubs will spend on new players.
