The Portuguese press are claiming that Arsenal are battling Serie A sides Inter and Napoli for the signature of former player Alex Song.

Alex Song is expected to leave Barcelona in the summer and there could be an Anglo-Italian battle to sign him.

Song played for Arsenal between 2005 and 2012, having arrived in North London on loan from Bastia in a move which became permanent.

The Cameroon international truly announced himself during an excellent 2008-09 campaign and became a key man for Arsene Wenger.

Song signed for Barcelona for £15m in the summer of 2012 but has struggled somewhat to find his best form in Spain.

Barcelona have reportedly put a £12m price tag on Song and it has been suggested that Manchester United are considering him as a step in rebuilding their squad in the summer.

However, Portuguese newspaper A Bola insists that former club Arsenal are in pole position to pounce but face competition from Inter and Napoli.

Both Inter and Napoli are in search of a player like Song to add some versatility and durability to their respective squads and it is reported that they have both made approaches.
