Emiliano Buendia to Arsenal has been a major talking point in recent weeks.
The Norwich City playmaker scored 15 goals and set up another 17 in the Championship last season as the Canaries secured Premier League promotion.
With Martin Odegaard returning to parent club Real Madrid, Arsenal need another creative spark in their side.
Sky Sports News claimed on Friday that the Gunners had lodged a £35 million bid for Argentine, who is valued at £40 million.
And now 90 Min has claimed that both Arsenal and the player himself believe that a deal will be completed.
The report adds that Buendia – who won Player of the Year in the Championship last term – has his ‘heart set’ on a move to the Emirates Stadium, with other clubs like Aston Villa and Everton also in the reckoning.
Big gamble
It goes without saying that Buendia is a good footballer.
And he has already proven himself decent in the Premier League during City’s last stint in the 2019-20 campaign.
But £40 million suggests that you’re a few levels above just ‘decent’ and can inspire Arsenal to major things in the Premier League.
And there’s just very little evidence that he’s of that calibre just yet.
It’s clear that £40 million is a lot of money, probably the most that the Emirates Stadium club will spend on any one player during the summer, but there’s undoubtedly an element of risk.
