According to Goal, Arsenal have told attacker Folarin Balogun that he can leave the club this summer after failing to agree a new deal.
It’s claimed that talks over a new deal have broken down, and Balogun is now all set to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Arsenal allegedly wanted Balogun to sign a ‘performance-based deal’. That would have ended up being very lucrative for the striker if he hit the targets in the contract.
Yet when Balogun and his representatives rejected that offer, Arsenal decided that they simply had to take the decision to sell him.
Arsenal are now focusing on getting the best possible deal for Balogun, with any deal likely to include a huge sell-on clause for such a talented young player.
The Gunners rejected a hefty £5million offer from Championship promotion-chasers Brentford, and it’s unclear whether they will get anything close to that now.
The global pandemic has hit budgets, and with Balogun now entering the final year of his contract, Arsenal may regret rejecting that bid as lower offers are likely to come now.
Balogun, 18, starred in Premier League 2 this season. With 10 goals and four assists in just 15 games, the New York-born England youth international showed huge potential.
It now looks like Balogun won’t follow Eddie Nketiah into the Arsenal first team, and will be sold on before he leaves at the end of his deal, with Brentford surely interested again.
