Spanish newspaper SPORT claim Arsenal have set their asking price for Gabriel at just £33million – with Barcelona said to be very interested in the left-footed defender. Gabriel has been at The Emirates for two seasons.

The 24-year-old defender was bought from Lille in the summer of 2020 and after a shaky start, the Brazilian has been first choice ever since. This season, he has formed a formidable partnership with England’s Ben White.

But a couple of mistakes in recent matches and SPORT initially reported that Barcelona were interested in raiding the Gunners for Gabriel. Now, a new report includes the price tag in which Arsenal have set for him.

Indeed, a fee of £33million – just £8million more than the £25million they paid Lille (GOAL) – is being requested. Whether Barcelona have the financial capability to meet that figure remains to be seen in the summer.

Arsenal set Gabriel price: Is £33m fair for Barcelona target?

Putting aside his current form and taking into account his excellent performances this season, no. He is worth more. Combine that with the fact he is a left-footed defender, at just 25, and Arsenal can get more.

While £33million is still a decent amount of money, Arsenal will not be able to replace what they have in Gabriel with the same fee. They would have to spend north. But a fee between £40million and £45million is fairer.

Mikel Arteta will be keen to keep him though – once branding him “terrific” in 2020 after a win over Burnley – and saying he has an “incredible future”.
